How much meat should you eat?

Us teenagers should eat around 2 servings of 85grams of cooked lean meat, poultry, or fish per day. A serving in this group may also consist of 1/2 cup of cooked dry beans or one egg. Meat is important for energy and protein. If you are a vegetarian talk with another vegetarian about how they get their protein intake or talk with a  doctor.



How big should your afternoon snack be?

Problem #1: YOUR REALLY, REALLY HUNGRY
Problem #2: you can't eat too much, because dinner will be in a few hours
Problem #3: there is never, ever anything to eat at home.

How to fix this:
  1. Don't have a huge afternoon snack because, even though you may feel really hungry then, you won't be hungry by dinner time - and its very important to eat a good sized, healthy dinner.
  1. Have a small sized portion of whatever you chose - here are some suggestions - a small bowl of cereal, small bowl of fruit, small muffin, two pieces of toast or a fruit smoothie.
  1. That way, by dinner time, you will be hungry for dinner,  but not starving.

Remember:
  • If you take your time eating your food, it tends to keep you fuller for longer. 
  • Having something nutritious - not unhealthy food - will also satisfy your stomach.
  • If you don't have allergies, nuts and/or dates can be a good idea for an afternoon snack.
